When: Wednesday, September 16, 10am-12pm.
Who this is for: Carleton University students and alumni from all programs and years of study who are either preparing for the next Ontario Teacher Education application cycle or are curious about how the application process works.
What you will get out of it: Learn how to research accredited Teacher Education programs in Ontario and assemble a competitive application package.
Location: Online via Zoom.
Whether you're planning to apply to an Ontario Teacher Education program in the upcoming admissions cycle or simply exploring teaching as a future career, this workshop will help you understand the pathway to becoming an Ontario Certified Teacher and what makes a strong candidate. You'll gain a practical overview of available program options, key admission criteria, and important considerations before you begin the process.
Through practical examples and trusted resources, you'll learn how to compare accredited Ontario faculties of education, navigate the TEAS portal, understand other certification pathways across Canada, and create an action plan to prepare for your next steps.

- Becoming an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT)
- Consecutive, Concurrent, and Master of Teaching (MT) programs
- Understanding Teaching Divisions
- How Teachable Subjects work
- Navigating the Ontario TEAS Application Portal
- Understanding admission requirements (e.g., admission average, teaching experience, Statement of Experience, references, and supplementary requirements)
- Researching Teacher Certification in other Canadian provinces and territories
- Next steps and action planning
- Question period
What to Expect
This workshop will consist of PowerPoint slides (visible via a shared screen), interactive polls and discussion questions, and electronic handouts that will be shared via the Zoom chat feature.
